Dance Pathway


DN-100 DANCE I BEGINNER – NON- STUDIO TRAINED DANCERS

This course is designed for the student who wants to learn about dance as an art. Students enrolled in the dance program will be studying various topics to help develop them as a dancer including but not limited to dance history, vocabulary, dance theory, choreography techniques, and writing a critique. Dance will include but is not limited to basic dance technique, ballet, jazz and academics. Dance students will have several performance opportunities throughout the year ending with a winter or spring Dance Gala. Performance in Dance Gala is required to move on to the next course level. To select the DNC 200 ADVANCED/TRAINED DANCERS course, successful completion of DN100 AND audition is required.

DN-200 DANCE II NON-STUDIO TRAINED DANCERS

This course is opened to students who have successfully completed the first level of dance. Dancers will extend and refine dance technique at a beginner/intermediate level while continuing basic dance technique, ballet, jazz, tap, and academics. Dance students will have several performance opportunities throughout the year ending with a winter or spring Dance Gala. Prerequisite: DN-100, Performance in Dance Gala.

DN-300 DANCE III NON-STUDIO TRAINED DANCERS

This course is opened to students who have successfully completed the second level of dance. Dancers will extend and refine dance technique at an intermediate/advance level while continuing basic dance technique, ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, and academics. Dance students will have several performance opportunities throughout the year ending with a winter or spring Dance Gala. Prerequisite: DN-100, 200, Performance in Dance Gala.

DN-400 DANCE IV NON-STUDIO TRAINED DANCERS

This course is opened to students who have successfully completed the third level of dance. Dancers will extend and refine dance technique at an advance level while continuing basic dance technique, ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, tap, and academics. Dance students will have several performance opportunities throughout the year ending with a winter or spring Dance Gala. Prerequisite: DN-100, 200, 300, Performance in Dance Gala.

DNC-100-400 ADVANCED/TRAINED DANCE I (By audition)

This course is designed for students who have been trained in dance for years and want to continue their studies. Students enrolling in advanced dance need to be currently studio trained. An audition is required to be enrolled in this level. This combined level will have dancers extend and refine basic dance technique, ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, tap, and academics. Senior students will be given an opportunity to do choreography to be adjudicated for a possible public performance. This course prepares the studio trained dance students for the professional and/or college careers. Dance students will have several performance opportunities throughout the year ending with a winter or spring Dance Gala. Prerequisite: Audition, Performance in Dance Gala.
