About the Program
Sussex Central High School boasts multiple choir performance opportunities with the Concert Choir, Advanced Choir, and Jazz Ensemble. There are also many opportunities for small-group chamber performances, solos, and travel ensembles. Participation in Concert Choir is open to students of any singing ability - even beginner! Later in the year, students will have the opportunity to audition for Advanced Choir and, upon approval, can schedule that class the following school year. Jazz ensemble is coordinated with the instrumentalists in Mr. Ables' class to create vocal jazz performance experiences for students.

Jazz Ensemble - Students in Advanced choir have the opportunity to work on some jazz repertoire because our jazz band meets the same period.

Choral Music Pathway
CHR-100 CONCERT CHOIR
Students will sing daily in class and perform within the school and community.Vocal music from a variety of cultures, languages, countries, and periods of history will be explored through performance, analysis, and discussion. All choir members learn basic music notation and how to read a choral score through basic music theory. Students will gain an understanding of the vocal tract and other basic anatomy required for safe and productive singing technique. Students will have opportunities to audition for solos, travel with the band and choir, audition for Sussex County and Delaware All State Honors Ensembles, and participate in other special performances as they arise. All students participating in Choir 100 are required to perform in the semesterly concert and one other performance (Hall of Fame Ceremony, Graduation Ceremony, Arts Festival, etc)
CHR-200 CONCERT CHOIR
Students will sing daily in class and perform within the school and community.Vocal music from a variety of cultures, languages, countries, and periods of history will be explored through performance, analysis, and discussion. All choir members learn basic music notation and how to read a choral score through basic music theory. Students will gain an understanding of the vocal tract and other basic anatomy required for safe and productive singing technique. CHR-300 CONCERT CHOIR

CHRA-100-400 ADVANCED CHOIR
By audition or teacher recommendation only. Students in advanced choirs should already have a basic understanding of most musical concepts, be familiar with reading notation or be willing to improve, as well as be driven to participate and perform at a higher standard of musical excellence. Vocal music from a variety of cultures, languages, countries, and periods of history will be explored in-depth through performance, analysis, and discussion. Students in this section of choir will explore advanced vocal techniques for chamber and jazz solo/ensemble performances as well. Members of this ensemble are expected to audition for Sussex County AND Delaware All State Honors Ensembles, perform in the semesterly concert and one other performance (Hall of Fame Ceremony, Graduation Ceremony, Arts Festival, etc)
